overview
ethyl nitrate is CH3CH2ONO2, colorless flammable liquid, with pleasant smell and sweet taste. Relative density 1.116, melting point -112 ℃, boiling point 87.6 ℃. There is a sweet ester smell (but too much inhalation is harmful, the toxicity is similar to nitroglycerin causing headaches, but the effect is faster and shorter than nitroglycerin) boiling point: it does not decompose and volatilize when boiling at 88.7 degrees, and the heat of combustion is 322kc/mol. It burns rapidly under open conditions to produce a green flame and has NOx smell. Confined spaces are transformed into detonation. Insensitive to impact and friction, but sensitive to detonation (filling white medicine in a glass tube as a detonator can trigger detonation) detonation velocity> 7000 M/S and PETN belong to the same level. But it was not used as a military explosive due to volatilization and liquid.
